We have an old infant seat that is past the expiration date and was in a fender bender. Should I put it in the dumpster or is there a place to recycle them?

  1. There are very few (currently like 2) places in the US that are specific places that recycle car seats, if you live near one, you're in luck. Otherwise, you can try calling your recycling center and asking - some will say they'll take it. Make sure you cut the straps and take off the cover before taking it in to make sure no one takes it for their personal use before it makes it to the machines. They won't recycle the harness and cover, they'll just throw them out anyways. If your local recycling center says no, there really is no choice but to cut the straps, take off the cover, put it in a trash bag (so no one sees it and thinks woohoo free seat!) for the trash pickup. You'd be amazed at what some people pick up off people's curbs and use for their children.

Anyways here's some more info on recycling them:

  2. Cut the harness straps, write do not use on the shell and dispose of in dark garbage bags.

You can also see if there is a tech near you who could use it for training purposes.

  3. IF IT IS MADE OF PLASTIC AND HAS A TRIANGLE ON IT THEN U CAN RECYCLE IT. IF NOT THEN U CAN DUMP IT.
