Question:

Old cat and new cat?

I have a dog and a cat that are like best friends. My dog loves all other animals but my cat hates other animals and hisses at them and gets mad. So here's the problem; i'm getting a new kitten to add to the family and i'm not worried about my dog and the kitten getting a long but i'm worried about my cat and the new kitten getting a long. I'm sure the kitten won't have a problem but my cat will most likely hiss and growl at her. So does anyone have any idea to get them more well acquainted to make this less diffiicult?

  1. you never know. your cat just might take the kittens in as if it was its own. but if i was you, i would see how your cat gets along with a kitten before making any more additions to the family. good look!

  2. I would very very slowly introduce them to each other. Never leave them alone together even for a short period. Your older cat might get jealous and try to kill the kitten. She might eventually learn to tolerate it but just be careful. Don't force the older one to do anything. Let her explore on her own but chaperon at all times. Good luck

  3. we had the same problem. our cats would always hiss at each other, so we tried separating them and introducing them slowly. as time passed, we made it so the cats weren't together but they could still see each other. maybe you could take your cat to see the other one but stay with it and break up any fighting or hissing. good luck :-)
