Old common stock certificate?

I found a stock certificat for General Life Insurance Corporation of Wisconsin that was taken out in 1964. How can I find out if it is worth anything. I can't find the company anywhere.

  1. You should attempt to find the transfer agent for this stock.  It's possible that the name of the company has changed - google the exact phrase below:

    "General Life Insurance Corporation of Wisconsin"

    The results should show a "name change" of the company in Texas.  If the stock certificate is worth anything, the transfer agent handling issues related to the stock will know and can issue a new stock certificate in the name of the new company or issue stocks to a brokerage account of the owner of the shares.

    Also, if you have a brokerage account, the rep who handles your account or someone at the firm can help you track down the transfer agent or the name of the new company.

  2. Contact the Secretary of State in Wisconsin.  They can tell you the status of the company now.
