  1. go to your local photo store, most of them can copy the old  content to a DVD. or get a old camcorder form ebay and play them but copy them direct on VHS or DVD, the best thing to do is to bring it away becouse it's going to be a quite boring and time consuming job, but after that it's digital and will be able to last for a good 100 years agan!

  2. You can buy a combo VHS/DVD recorder & transfer the tapes on your own. Depending on how many tapes you have it may be a better buy!!

  3. I have found that old videos on tape keep very well for many years. To keep them watchable into the future, it is best to get them copied to a new format such as mini-dv. To do this you can either take your old tapes to a person who specialises in this, or buy a cheap camera on ebay and do it yourself.

Once transferred to mini-dv, you have far more options like transferring to dvd, editing into a more watchable sequence, or saving on hard drive etc.

Whatever you do, keep the original tapes in a safe place, as you might want to transfer them again one day as new technology comes along.
