I have a 10 year husky, he is going through a shed but it won't stop, I've used shed stop shampoo, ect... he keeps shedding now he has a patch of naked skin on his chest about the size of a soft ball.... ???? What is that? And both sides of his private are going bald, slightly pink but not looking irritated by anything...ANY IDEAS???? He is only 10 his diet is good, he is slightly overweight, and has heartworm, we've rescued him 2 years ago. I'm worried, and have made a vet apt. but what should I do for now?

  1. I hope your Vet does a skin scraping to rule out mites. But it could be a number of things. I'm so glad you made an appointment. Just love him until your Vet can tell you whats wrong. Good Luck!

  2. There is nothing you can do for now until you get him into the vet.  Have your vet do a complete thyroid panel on the dog.  It is a simple blood test.  Excessive hair loss is a sign that it may be off.  Also if your dog is not as active as it once was and seems to be putting on too much weight.

  3. We had a 17 year old Husky who lost hair in patches during the last 5 years of his life.  It was nothing serious, just hair loss like an old man balding.

Def. get him checked to make sure he doesn't have an allergy, and stop washing him for the time being.  It'll only make things worse until you know what's going on.
