Old irrigation system?

I started digging and found what looks like black flexible pvc with a 3/4" pvc tee clamped in between, connecting two sections. It appears that the flex pvc wraps around my front lawn in a closed loop and that there was some sort of a connection at the tee. There is also a white pvc pipe comming up from the ground at the tee.

I have no experience with inground sprinklers, but if someone happens to know, would it make sense that the white pvc is a supply line that was once connected at the tee feeding the loop in my front lawn? Thanks.

It does sound as if you had a closed loop line, and that it consists of poly.  The white pvc line surely could be what fed this loop.  While there isn't anything wrong with this, it may be a bit unusual to see both poly and pvc lines used in the same installation, however installations vary greatly from one area to another.  For example, very rarely would you ever see poly used in this area, but in other places it is more common than pvc.

I'd assume that by turning on your valves either electronically or manually you could easily find out whether or not the pvc line is connected.
