Old or New Spitalfields?

I live in outer london and have so far only visited (and loved) Camden and Covent Garden for quirky market things. Ive been told Portobello Rd is another good one that I plan to check out. Another I have heard of is Spitalfields but when I looked on TFL to see how to get there it said there is a New Spitalfields market in Leyton and an old one near Liverpool St station. Which is the better for quirky gifts? And whats the difference?

  1. You need the old one by Liverpool Street Station.  That's the old Spitalfields.  (It's become smaller recently due to modern development, but thankfully part of the old market has been saved.)
