Old rotary phones?

does anyone know how to dial the old rotary phones it just makes a bunch of clicks when i dial a phone number and just keeps a dial tone i can't get it to call anywhere

you did not mention the type of phone service that you are using, landline or VoIP..

I am still able to use rotary with most landlines, but VoIP does not support pulse dialing... the bunch of click are the pulse "tones" dialing out... but if it is not breaking dial tone, then it is likely that pulse is not compatible with your phone service... however all is not lost, you can get a pulse to tone converter such as this...

Pulse dialing is no longer supported my many phone companies. Use the phone for incoming calls only, and as a conversation piece.

Also keep it handy for freeloaders to use.

Yes, take the phone off of the hanger, then use one finger and place it into the correct number, and drag it around till your finger hits the stop, then pull your finger out and let the dial rotate back to the starting position, then repeat with another number until you have dialed the complete number.

that means it isnt working....after all the digits it should complete...

There's a good chance that your local phone company no longer supports "pulse dialing"; the 'clicking' signal that the old phones sent that routes the call to the right number.  As they upgrade to new technology, the support for it may no longer be there.

If that's the case, your old phone will never work on that system again, though you'll probably still be able to recieve calls on it.
