There's an old scar on my TB's hindquarters from his racing days... is there anything I can do to get the hair to come back through? The scar is pretty big, maybe the size of a baseball.

  1. its going to be there for the rest of his life tire coco butter to make the scar not so big

  2. Sounds really really stupid.  But............ St Ives Extream dry skin lotion with callogen and elastin.

I had a Qhorse mare with a scare on the tip of her stifle about that big.. she'd been run thru a board fence by a stupid cowboy trying to force her to roll back........ she didnt and 9 inches of board when into her.

Anyway.. it was long healed when she came to me, and the skin was bare, rough and scared up.  I rubed the lotion on it daily, because the vet said atleast it would keep it flexable and I had a worry that due to its location it would stretch and rip... after a month hair started regrowing on the edges.. and after 6 it was 95% filled in.

softening the skin allowed the hair follicles that weren't damaged to make hair..

It wont hurt to try it

  3. My TB recently moved fields and got plenty of cuts, then they scarred. I have been using Corona with quite a bit of success. It covers it, and keeps it moisturized. However, it does attract dirt, which is not a huge problem, since I can just wash it off. Vitamin E oil did not work and neither did my purple "Scar'Away". Hope this helps!

  4. i used to work at a hunter/jumper show barn, and they used something called "grape balm" could be spelled "grape balsam" not sure...to get hair to grow back, and to keep it from growing back white.

  5. nopes, its gonna be like that for the rest of his life, sorry sweetheart :) x*x

  6. There is a product you can try that helps with skin conditions and also promotes hair growth.  It is called MTG and you can get it at your local farm and fleet store.  I have used it on my one mare who had major hair loss when I first bought her and it has helped a great deal.  Good luck

  7. I've seen vaseline work, and A&D ointment.  Some scars are too deep and there are no hair follicles...but some still have follicles that just need a chance to get the hair through the scar...by stimulating the circulation and softening the scar, you may get some hair back...but don't be surprised if it's white.
