Old television help?

There's a super old television in our spare room downstairs, we have a regular Directtv box connected to the back of the set with (I think it is) coaxial cords(i don't know what you call them). I want to connect a DVD/VHS player which only uses A/V (the kind with red, white, yellow) to the television, but it is impossible because the cord is red, white, yellow on both ends hence no coaxial thing to plug with the old television. So, I tried plugging the red, white, yellow, cords with the red, white, yellow holes in the Directtv box.. and it's not working.

I am stuck. I really don't know what to do, please help me

  1. get a new tv, make sure it's hd so you can use it threw 2009.

  2. You can buy adapters at Radio Shack, Best Buy, and maybe ever Circuit City.  Good Electronics retailers will have them.

  3. What you need is a "RF modulator". They are about $20 at places like Walmart.
