Question:

Old time Hershey's chocolate sauce recipe

Years ago I had a recipe that came off the Hershey's cocoa can for a chocolate ice cream sauce. It contained butter and you cooked it on top of the stove with a whisk. It is a sauce, not syrup and not hot fudge. I've lost the recipe and can't find it anywhere.

Anyone out there remember this recipe?

  1. I was able to find these two recipes:

    Hershey's Warm Chocolate Sauce

    Ingredients

1/3 cup packed light brown sugar

    2 tablespoons HERSHEY'®S Cocoa

    1 teaspoon potato starch

    3/4 cup evaporated milk

    1/4 cup (1/2 stick) butter

    1. Stir together sugar, cocoa and potato starch in small saucepan. Gradually stir in evaporated milk. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens. Add butter; stir until melted. Cool slightly.

    Chocolate Fudge Sauce

From "Hershey's 1934 Cookbook" published by Hershey Chocolate Company

    1/4 cup Hershey's Cocoa

    3/4 cup granulated sugar

    1/2 tsp. salt

    1 Tbl. cornstarch

    1/2 cup light corn syrup

    1/2 cup milk

    2 Tbl. butter

    2 tsp. vanilla

Combine dry ingredients in sauce pan. Add corn syrup and milk, and blend thoroughly. Bring to a boil, boil 5 minutes. Remove from heat; stir in butter and vanilla. Cool, without stirring, until pan feels warm to hand. Serv. Yield: 1-1/2 cupfuls sauce.

  2. My mother used to make this - it was yummy!  She no longer has the recipe but said she thought it had evaporated milk in it.  I found this recipe - haven't tried it yet, but it looks pretty good:

    Hot Fudge Sauce Recipe

    Ingredients:

    3/4 cup Sugar

    1/3 cup Light corn syrup

    1/2 cup Hershey's cocoa

    1/3 cup Butter

    5 ounces Evaporated milk

    1 teaspoon Vanilla

    Directions:

Combine sugar and cocoa in small saucepan; blend in evaporated milk and corn syrup. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture boils; boil and stir one minute. Remove from heat; stir in butter and vanilla. Serve warm.

  3. This might not be it either, but my mom has made this for over 50 years.

    Skillet Sundae Sauce

In ¼ c. melted butter, lightly brown 1 c. coarsely chopped nuts.  Remove from heat.  Add 12 oz. chocolate chips.  Stir until melted and pour over ice cream.

  4. I'm not sure of that one, but this is a delicious and easy sauce for ice cream;

    2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa

    1 2/3 cups white sugar

    1 1/4 cups water

    1 teaspoon vanilla extract

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine cocoa, sugar and water. Bring to a boil and let boil 1 minute. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla.
