Old valid passport cancelled

Hi

My name is Kushal and I am a software professional and hold an indian passport

I am in a dilema. I regularly travelled to middle east countries for office related work. I recently had to travel to Israel, So i tried to make a new passport which was valid only for Israel ( to avoid future ME travel problem).

When filling the online form I filled in the detail of the old passport. When my new passport (G#######) came home it showed that "Old passport has been cancelled and returned". There is NO stamping on my old passport(valid) (E#######) which says its cancelled. I asked the passport officer if my old passport still holds good. The person said it does. How can I check if my old passport is not deleted from the database ( if there exists any such database).

When I showed my old and new passport to the officer, he asked me to write and application and submit my new passport which they were supposed to correct and send it back. Now I dont have the new passport and not sure if the old one still holds good.

hmmm...weird. why did you have to make a new passport just valid for israel??? shouldn't you have 2 passports only if you have dual citizenship? if you were travelling to israel what was wrong with your indian passport and what passport did you have to get???
