Okay, I have a 20GB IPod its an older one. When I turn it on it shows and Exclamation point and a file. (it was given to me and it worked so i cant return it to a store or anything) Does anyone know what's wrong with it? I use to charge it nt he radio stand (the thing you sit your ipod on to listen to the music like a radio?) I know it drains the battery so i am getting a new charger, but i would like to know if that will fix it?

Please help 5***** for best answer

  1. Connect the iPod to your computer. If an alert message appears suggesting that your iPod needs to be either repaired or reformatted, you can use the latest version of iTunes to restore the iPod. If this alert message does not appear when connecting the iPod to your computer, continue with the suggestions below.

The battery may be low. Charge the battery by connecting iPod to your computer using the cable that came with iPod, or by connecting to an Apple iPod Power Adapter. Verify that the iPod is receiving a charge by looking for a lighting bolt icon or charging animation. Click here for more charging information.

If none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired. You can arrange for service at the iPod Service Website  ( https://selfsolve.apple.com/GetWarranty.... )

  2. Well, I would say that the file means that either the firmware, (what makes the iPod work) is damaged or the files have been somehow wiped from the iPod.

You'll need a computer with internet, iTunes and a cable to replace the firmware. If you don't have these, see if you can use a friend's.

If it's the files, same again - iTunes, PC, cable. You'll have to put all the songs back on it.

Of course, this iPod may have just reached the end of its life. It could be time to replace it, if you can afford it.

    Hope this helps,

    Tom.

  3. Usually that means it can't find the file.

And the Memorex iWake clock for iPod plays your iPod, but it also charges it while it's on there. Good Luck!

  4. Have you tried to do a reset?  Hold menu+select and see if it boots to the apple logo.  If it does see if you can get to disk mode by pressing play+select as soon as you see the logo after doing a menu+select.

    does itunes recognize it?
