  1.  What are the Voltage and current specs for Marklin HO AC locomotives? I want to use my own transformer and need to make sure it provides the right voltage and current to the track. I live in the US.

  2. Many of Marklin's HO sets were sold without transformers.  This is because Marklin shipped their products to countries around the world, each with its own voltage/Hz requirements.  So Marklin's strategy from 1945-1980 was to market its HO sets with just train and tracks, and to let the consumer then decide what transformer/rectifier to purchase separately (i.e. 110 volts for Canada/USA, 220-240 volts in Europe, 100 volts for Japan, etc.).  The most important thing to note, however, is that Marklin's HO system operates on three-rail AC only, whereas many other manufacturers are 2-rail DC.  You must therefore buy a Marklin transformer with the voltate appropriate for you country.  The Marklin Set 3185 is, I believe, the set with the 4-6-2 DB steam passenger locomotive with three passenger cars, as well as M-track for the S+E track configuration (i.e. oval plus two switches to create a siding).  M-track is the metal-based track.  This set was produced largely in the 1970's until around 1980.  It is very desireable if it is in good condition.
