Oleg Utekhin wins Men’s 50m breast-stroke semi-final - 2011 FINA World Junior Championships
Day five of the 2011 FINA World Junior Championships saw an impressive splash of Oleg Utekhin in Lima, Peru, on Saturday, August 18. The session of the meet conducted Men’s 50m breast-stroke semi-final and Women’s 4x100m freestyle relay final.
The Men’s 50m breast-stroke semi-final heat saw Oleg Utekhin of Russia hit the wall in a fastest time of 28.43 seconds to win the race. In the meantime, Akihiro Yamaguchi of Japan was placed second in a time of 28.53 seconds and Panagiotis Samilidis of Greece
earned third place honours with an impressive time of 28.61 seconds. In the corresponding race, Harry Craig Benson of Great Britain was placed fourth with a mark of 28.72 seconds and Angelito Cassandra of Brazil earned fifth place honours with a time of 28.76
seconds.
Nicolas Fink of United States of America settled sixth with a mark of 28.79 seconds, while Bastian Vollmer of Germany was placed seventh in a time of 28.90 seconds. Roman Trussov of Kazakhstan earned eighth place honours in a time of 29.09 seconds. Additionally,
Anton Tischenko of Russia settled ninth in a time of 29.11 seconds and Czech Republic’s Jakub Sevcik finished tenth in a time of 29.13 seconds.
In the Women’s 4x100m freestyle relay final heat, United States’ team of Kristen Vredeveld, Simone Manuel, Rachel Acker and Lia Neal earned the golden crown on the podium by posting a winning time of 3 minutes and 42.85 seconds. Meanwhile, the silver medal
was taken over by Canada’s squad of Brittany MacLean, Victoria Chan, Lauren Earp and Landeghem Van with an impressive mark of 3 minutes and 43.24 seconds.
In the corresponding race, Amelia Maughan, Emma Saunders, Emily Jones and Jessica Lloyd of Great Britain took home the bronze title on the podium by posting a winning time of 3 minutes and 45.99 seconds. France’s team of Camille Gheorghiu, Beryl Gastaldello,
Mathilde Cini and Assia Touati was placed fourth in a time of 3 minutes and 46.88 seconds, while Ukraine’s group of four including Nadiya Koba, Iryna Glavnyk, Valeriya Podlisna and Daryna Zevina rounded out the top five in a time of 4 minutes and 47.60 seconds.
Russia was placed sixth in 3 minutes and 48.15 seconds, while China earned seventh position in 3 minutes and 48.30 seconds. Australia settled eighth with a mark of 3 minutes and 48.52 seconds.
