Olekandr Nedovesov trounces Yuri Schukin in the quarter-finals – Lermontov Challenger 2012 CH
Ranked 261st in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings, Olekandr Nedovesov, after a tough battle with the Kazak, Yuri Schukin, journeyed into the semi-finals of the Lermontov Challenger 2012, Russia. The Ukrainian
professional jolted down his 7-6(3), 6-7, 6-2 win on the eve of three hours on Friday.
The 33-year-old, Schukin, confidently commenced the match and held his initial serve with a strong resolve to dominate his opponent. He even broke Nedovesov’s serve in the fourth game, stamping his 3-1 lead. For the initial half,
the Ukrainian seemed completely powerless and was unable withstand his rival’s pressure. Moving toward the end i.e. in the ninth game, Nedovesov quickly gained momentum and clinched the lead. He broke his competitor’s serve in the and started to level the
score line to 5-all in the very next game. However, Nedovesov concluded the set with a 7-6(6) win after a tough tiebreaker.
The Kazak completely reversed the table in the second set and displayed his improved game plan. Both players held their initial serve throughout the set and evened out each other’s serves after every alternate game. This time around,
the veteran brought his experience in hand to grip a strong focus. Despite of his former loss, he calmly progressed in the set without any hindrance and carved out a surprising 7-6(6) score.
The Ukrainian contender had a higher initial serve presentation of 69 percent, converting 23 of 29 first but five of 13 second delivery points. The Kazak native had 57 percent first serve accuracy, with 18 of 27 first and 13 of
20 second serve points. Both the players were unable to secure even a single break point in the entire set.
In the decider, Nedovesov, returned to the courts with a strong determination to clinch his lost glory. He broke his rival’s first serve and completely shattered his confidence. He pocketed the initial two games without any difficulty
and marked a 2-love lead since the start. He held his serve the entire time, sustaining his composure, pulled out of the set with a 6-2 sore line after cashing another serve break in the seventh game.
Schukin manifested 58 percent of the first serve points, with 12 of 21 points but the Ukrainian professional had lower initial serve precision of 50 percent. He secured nine of 14 points with two of five break points.
