Olesen falters in the last round at the Lyoness Open
After the British Championship Open it was time for the Open in Austria. The biggest names in the world of golf gathered for the prestigious Lyoness Open 2012. The venue for the event was Diamond Country Club in Atzenbrugg, Austria.
The players displayed the best golf and tried as hard as they could to win the championship. Many players managed to give an extraordinary performance, nonetheless, in the end there could only be one winner.
One of the players who had an outstanding performance is Thorbjorn Olesen. Olesen had one of the best starts to the tournament but was not able to see his win through. He had a good start, unfortunately for the player he was not able to perform on the last
day.
The first day was the best one for the Dane professional golfer. He managed to card eight birdies in the first round. These made his score eight-under par.
He had four-under par on both the second and third day. He carded five and four birdies on the second and third round respectively. These made his score sixteen-under par.
At the time, Olesen was well in the lead. Still, he was not happy with his performance.
In an interview he said, “I didn't hit the ball as well I did on the first two days. I still had some good opportunities – I could've taken a few more, but the fact that I’m feeling slightly disappointed with a 68 is probably a good sign, because it shows
how well I’m playing and how high my expectations are”.
As the last round started, Olesen had a three-point lead. He could have easily bagged the trophy. Unfortunately, he failed to do so.
On the front nine, on the last day, Olesen just had a single birdie. Despite the slow start to the last round, Olesen was still in the lead.
In the end Olesen had a few bad holes. He carded three bogeys towards the end of the back nine. These made his score two-over par for the day.
Olesen finished the tournament with a disappointing fourteen-under par and was five strokes behind the leader of the tournament.
