Olesya Vladykina occupies Women’s 100m breaststroke gold – 2012 Paralympic Games
Olesya Vladykina of Russia occupied gold medal of the Women’s 100m breaststroke in SB8 category on day three of the swimming events at the 2012 London Paralympic Games in Aquatics Centre on Saturday, September 1.
The Russian swimmer stayed prominently ahead of her competitors throughout the double lap event and faced no difficulty in proving her eligibility for top spot on the victory stand.
With her unrelenting efforts, Vladykina enjoyed an advantage of three body lengths over her following swimmer and stepped on the victory stand for gold medal by clocking a time of 1 minute and 17.17 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Claire Cashmore of Great Britain, who stayed 3.22 seconds apart and secured second position of the event by reporting a time of 1 minute and 20.39 seconds.
Cashmore was traced by Paulina Wozniak of Poland, who stayed 2.06 seconds slower and surfaced on the wall as third fastest swimmer by clocking a time of 1 minute and 22.45 seconds.
The bronze medallist was trailed by Anna Johannes of USA, who stayed exactly one second behind and settled on the finishing end as fourth best finisher by producing a time of 1 minute and 23.45 seconds.
Subsequently, fifth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Katarina Roxon of Canada, who stayed three and a half body lengths away from her former finisher and ended her race in a time of 1 minute and 27.07 seconds.
Roxon was chased by Anna Kolosova of Russia, who suffered a loss of one body length from her preceding swimmer and reported a time of 1 minute and 27.58 seconds.
Kolosova remained nearly three seconds faster from Natalie du Toit of South Africa, who hit the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 30.85 seconds for seventh position.
Last position of the race was obtained by Manami Nomura of Japan, who failed to overpower any of her opponents and finished eighth with a timing of 1 minute and 31.19 seconds.
Vladykina was overjoyed with her gold finish on third day of the event and received medal after the event.
