Olga Govortsova slays Andrea Hlavackova in the qualifiers – BNP Paribas Open 2012
Qualifier’s fifth seed, Olga Govortsova, flashed past the Czech tennis star, Andrea Hlavackova, in straight sets at the BNP Paribas Open 2012 on Tuesday. She joggled up a 6-4, 6-1 success against the 25-year-old to enter the main draw of this Premier Mandatory
event.
The Belarusian number three displayed awe-inspiring skills to outclass Hlavackova at this $4.5 million WTA (Women’s Tennis Tournament) tournament taking place in Indian Wells, United States. As a result, she took revenge for her loss against the Czech at
the Opole WTA event seven years ago.
Ranked 87th in the WTA rankings, Govortsova stormed into the Indian Wells Tennis Garden and after breaking the Czech’s serve twice, she cruised to a 5-1 lead. Regardless of losing her serve in the eighth game, the Belarusian held her serve once
more and pocketed the opener with a 6-4 win.
The 23-year-old kept her winning ways in the following set and earned the coveted break in the opening game. In spite of losing her edge in the very next game, she held her nerves and pulled out the breadstick. Govortsova reeled off the last five games in
a row to jolt down a superb 6-1 score line.
All in all, the Belarusian coughed more double faults but nudged up a higher first serve share of 64 per cent as opposed to Hlavackova’s 49 per cent. She also incredibly availed 22 out of 29 points on it and converted six out of seven break chances to her
advantage.
Up next for the blooming Belarusian is the Kazakhstani tennis ace, Ksenia Pervak, in the opening round. Govortsova can easily surpass any challenge if she plays her original game.
The qualifier’s ninth seed, Varvara Lepchenko, will accompany Govortsova in the main draw. She devastated the Romanian challenger, Edina Gallovits-Hall, with double breadsticks in under an hour.
Lepchenko, ranked 82nd in the WTA rankings, smoothly held her entire serves without facing any barrier. On the other hand, she capitalised on five out of eight break opportunities to manifest an assuring 6-1, 6-1 victory in their seventh meeting.
The American also produced a better first serve share and amazingly clicked 19 out of 24 points on it.
