Olga Konon topples Karin Schnaase to claim Women’s Singles title at Deutsche Meisterschaften 2012
Germany’s talented female shuttler, Olga Konon, made her presence felt as she claimed Women’s Singles title after toppling Karin Schnaase in the final showdown of Deutsche Meisterschaften 2012, on Sunday, February 5, in Germany.
Konon, who was positioned at number two in Women’s Singles seeding of the event, displayed her smashing performance as she gave a severe treatment to her third seeded opponent Karin and won the final contest in straight games.
Karin, who played remarkable badminton in all matches of the tournament, failed to continue her impressive run in the final contest and lost it in 39 minutes.
In the opening half of first game, both ladies showed their fabulous skills by playing attacking badminton. They remained toe-to-toe by keeping the pace of rallies high and did not miss any chance to end progress on the score board.
The score was close until the one-minute break as both shuttlers failed to establish a reasonable lead on the board.
However, it was Konon who started to dominate the game in second half of first set. She executed powerful smashes coupled with fast drop shots which disturbed the flow of her lower ranked rival.
Konon was composed and positive in the game and did not face any trouble in the concluding phase of opening set. She grabbed it with a four-point advantage of 21-17.
In the second set, Karin tried to control the pace of rallies by accelerating her speed but she failed to find gaps in her opponent’s court and remained trailing far behind.
On the other hand, Konon showed no sign of urgency as she played complete game and pushed her challenger in all corners of the court. Until the one-minute interval, Konon took a striking advantage of 11-6.
After the break, Karin became slow and could not take the bird early which helped her higher ranked rival to extend her lead on the score board.
Konon continued her impressive run in the concluding part of second set and faced no trouble in ending it with a sensational margin of 21-11.
This Women’s Singles final encounter ended in 39 minutes with a 21-17 and 21-11 margin on the score board.
