Olga Savchuk ousts Nicha Lertpitaksinchai in 2nd qualifying round – Bank of the West Classic 2011
Kicking off on the 24th July 2011 was the qualifying second round of the Bank of the West Classic 2011 between the Ukrainian, Olga Savchuk and the Thai Nicha Lertpitaksinchai at the
Taube Family Tennis Center Stanford University, California. The Ukraine won the match in a run of the mill victory of 6-3, 6-3.
Meeting for the first time on outdoor hard courts; Olga opened the set with an ace, she later hit two more aces. However, Olga kept on hitting the net and struck four double faults, it seemed as if her opponent was not Nicha it
was the net! Although she performed commendably on her serve and return serve, Savchuk capitalised on three of the ten break point opportunities she created and saved eight of the ten break points she faced on her own serve in the opening set. On the other
hand Nicha had struck only one double fault and capitalised on two of the ten break point opportunities she had created and saved seven break points she faced on her own serve. The match was a close tie between both the players; however Olga won the set with
eight more total set points that Nicha’s.
By the second set Nicha had improved on her serve and return but was unable to save three break points she faced on her own serve and was only able to capitalise fifty percent of the break point opportunities she created. While
Olga saved fifty percent of her break points and won a hundred percent of the break point opportunities. The match was close in terms of points scored, the Ukrainian had an above average serve and return serve and won the set with a meagre five more points
than the Thai.
Concluding, both the players were bent on winning the match, however, Olga won the match with a total of thirteen more points than Nicha. The overall match saw;  Olga hit three aces, struck seven double faults,  won fifty four
percent of total serve points along with fifty six percent of total return points.
Born on the 20th of September, 1987, the 23-year-old Ukraine reached her career high ranking of world number 79 on the 19th of May 2008. Her most notable performance in her career was when she reached the third round
of the Australian Open in 2006.
She will now be facing Canadian Sharon Fichman in the final qualifying round of the Bank of the West Classic Championships 2011.
