Olive oil in a deep frier?

can it be used in a deep fat frier and if so how many times can it be fried b4 it needs changing

  2. No I would not use olive oil in a deep fat fryer.

    Olive oil is best used unheated as it's chemical properties change when heated, which loses it's natural goodness.

    It also doesn't reach high temperatures like other oils do when frying so is ineffective.


  3. Although the above answerer says it is not good to fry in, I have found small batches of fried veggies, like squash and okra to be marvelous cooked in olive oil.  

    I also fry my breakfast eggs in it.  But have never done it in a deep fryer.  It might be a bit expensive.

  4. Yes you can certainly use it in a deep fryer just like any other oil that has a high smoke point. In fact, fried chicken and some other foods actually have a unique taste when fried in olive oil.

    Olive oil, like all other oils, is cooked when it gets heated, and this leads to chemical changes in the oil itself.  Some molecules begin to clump together, which is why used oil tends to seem slightly thicker than fresh.  The oil molecules can also break down, creating a rancid smell and taste.  It can change color and start to take on characteristics of the food that is cooked in it.  All of these things are typical with only one use in a deep fryer.  

    Bottom line, you can only expect to get one use out of olive oil.  You might be able to get a second use if didn’t heat the oil to too high of a temperature and you strain out all of the solids that might have accumulated during cooking.  However, this isn’t likely and you should consider replacing the oil after use, as the changes that I described above can lead to oil that has a nasty smell and taste.  Used oil also has a lower smoke point, which means that the temperature at which oil vapors can spontaneously ignite is lower than it was when the oil was fresh.  I’ve never encountered this yet, but the higher risk of fire is always there.

    Why not try vegetable oil or sunflower oil?

    The colour will change it goes kinda brown thats when it needs changing usually about 4 uses but sometimes more!

  6. olive oil really isnt the best oil for deep frying.  Peanut oil is what you want.  You are reuse peanut oil up 3 times and it does not make your food taste oil, it really keeps the food in tact

  7. Olive oil is a dressing oil - NOT a cooking oil ! ! !

  8. i know that we should not over heat oil olives because it turns to some bad chemicals that is affect our health.

    doctors always recommend not to fry food but if u want use vegetable oil.

    and i think it should not b used for more than 2 times. it also depends on the clearness of the oil after u use it.

  9. I deep fry in olive oil. It never needs changing, it doesn't cloud like vegetable oil.

    Simply pour the oil through a sieve and use it again and again, and add more to it as needed.

    Olive oil is better for deep frying some things as it has a better flavour and  it reaches a higher temperature, and has a higher flash point than vegetable oil, and is therefore less likely to catch fire.
