Oliver Golding/Jiri Vesely down Dubarenco/Manafov in Boys’ Doubles quarterfinal – Wimbledon 2011
Top seeded pair of Oliver Golding of Great Britain and Jiri Vesely of Czech Republic made it into the semi-finals of the Boys’ doubles category at Wimbledon Championships on Friday.
In the quarter-final clash which took place at the Court 18 of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in Wimbledon, London, England, the number one seeded duo defeated the combination of Maxim Dubarenco of Moldova and Vladyslav
Manafov of Ukraine to qualify for the round of four at the tournament.
The top seeded duo took merely 64 minutes to conclude a straight sets victory over Dubarenco and Manafov, settling the final scores at 7-6(5), 6-3, to dispense them out of the Grand Slam tournament. Golding and Vesely had to work
their way through the opening round of the match due to some stiff resistance from their opponents but cruised through the next set to conclude an easy victory in the end.
Dubarenco and Manafov had a decent beginning to the opener, holding serve in all the games and dragged the set into a tie breaker. The number one seeded pair edged passed Dubarenco and Manafov in the tie breaker round to get one
up in the contest and then carried on their winning impetus in the next set to ensure victory.
Although Dubarenco and Manafov lost the matchup, they served with great accuracy, reaching 77 per cent in the match but 19 winners from Golding and Vesely left them answerless in the game. The top seeded pair fired 10 aces in the
contest and reeled off 36 out of 41 first serve points to come out as the winner in the end.
Golding and Vesely combined their efforts with great mastery in the competition to outplay their opponents. They were tentative to start off the opening set and took a few risks, while sticking to a cautious approach in the match.
None of the contestant registered a serve break in the opening set of the match, eventually enforcing a tie breaker round at 6-6. Golding and Vesely showed the true class of top seeded pair and outplayed their opponents to take the first set at 7-6(5).
The only serve break of the match came from Golding and Vesely, who took it to seal victory at 6-3 in the second set. They will next face the number three seed Spanish duo of Andres Artunedo and Roberto Carballes for a place in
the final of the Wimbledon Championships Boys’ Doubles.
