Oliver Gwilt, Agnes Korosi march into quarter-finals of Slovenia International 2012
Mixed Doubles partners Oliver Gwilt and Agnes Korosi surged into quarter-finals of FZ Forza Slovenia International after stamping Sebastijan Milkic-Katarina Beton in opening match on May 11, 2012.
Both teams stayed in court for 42 minutes and consumed their energies in three exhausting sets to display final figures of 21-23, 21-19 and 26-24.
The epic first round tussle opened with a remarkable performance of native duo Sebastijan-Katarina who bagged first match point immediately but they could not capitalise this advantage in last two games.
Oliver and Agnes, who belong to Wales and Hungary respectively, made amends in final stages and earned their spot in top eight teams of the event.
In opening game of the match, the local shuttlers unleashed an intensive attack to gain a decent advantage.
Mixed Doubles partners Sebastijan and Katarina had full support of local crowd and they relished this advantage. They placed total of 11 points before the announcement of one-minute interval.
After mid-game break, the opposing team of Oliver-Agnes also accelerated their pace and narrowed the gap with some nonstop rallies.
Both teams remained locked in a tight situation until game point position but the Slovenian couple made the difference by registering concluding margin of 23-21.
However, they could not go in same flow in following game as the twosome of Oliver-Agnes stormed back with a strong reply.
This time they did not spare any loophole and exhibited hard to learn badminton skills. They got in commanding position with some back-to-back points immediately in the start and ended first half with comfortable lead in score position.
Later part of the game saw Sebastijan and Katarina picking up the speed but their run was short lived as Oliver-Agnes stepped forward with a final leap on finishing total of 21-19.
The decider turned consequential as both contenders were standing at same level. They put all in their possession to avoid a woeful exit and remained toe-to-toe until last moments.
Four times they reached at game point situation but none of them could make most of this opportunity.
Finally this nerve-racking tussle ended when Oliver and Agnes clinched two consecutive points and wrapped the show with a tight yet decisive margin of 26-24.
