Oliver Kahn: Bayern Munich should be able to cope without Bastian Schweinsteiger
The former Germany international reckons that Bayern Munich should be able to cope without Bastian Schweinsteiger, provided the quality they have in their ranks. He also urged other players to stand up and fight for their lost pride in order to regain the
top spot on the table.
Bayern are currently third in the Bundesliga after losing three of their last five games, and find themselves one point short of the Borussia clubs, Dortmund and Gladbach, as a result.
In order to regain the top spot, Bayern would need to defeat Werder Bremen in their next game and hope for a draw between the reigning German champions and the Foals.
Meanwhile, Kahn revealed that Schweinsteiger’s absence is no excuse for the club’s drop in form as Bayern are blessed with other quality players in the form of Manuel Neuer, Arjen Robben, Franck Ribery and Mario Gomez.
He urged the other players to stand up and help Bayern regain their lost touch if they want to challenge the likes of Dortmund and Gladbach.
The goalie also declined the fact that Bayern are a weak force without the midfielder, encouraging his former club to press harder in their upcoming games and not wait for Schweinsteiger’s return.
While speaking to Bild, the shot stopper further enthused:
"Bayern Munich are not dependent on anyone. Of course, one can clearly see that he would play well. But it would be too easy to cite Bastian's absence as a reason for the defeats. If the helmsman is missing, others must step into the breach."
"The aim must be to win all the games until the winter break and to be first in the league. They should also progress in the DFB Pokal. The situation is a little problematic, but far from a crisis." Kahn concluded.
Bayern are one point adrift of Borussia Dortmund and Borussia Monchengladbach and will enter the Bremen game on the back of a 2-1 defeat at Mainz.
