Oliver Wilson makes the cut at the European Tour’s Qualifying School Final Stage
Former Ryder Cup player Oliver Wilson carded a two-under par 70 in the fourth round of the European Tour’s Qualifying School Final Stage, to make the cut by just one stroke.
The tournament is being played at the par-72 Stadium Course and the par-70 Tour Course at the PGA Catalunya Resort.
Playing on the difficult Stadium Course, Wilson got off to a slow start, having carded pars on eight of the first nine holes, along with a bogey on the second hole.
He then picked up pace on the back nine of the course and birdied five of the first six holes that he played.
However, the Englishman failed to keep the momentum going into the final three holes of the day, and conceded bogeys on the 16th and the 18th hole.
At the end of the day, he had landed at the 56th position on the leaderboard, with a one-over par overall score.
The 32-year-old is now five strokes behind the top-25 and ties, who will earn their full-time playing cards for the 2013 European Tour season.
Talking to the European Tour’s official website, he admitted that he was feeling the pressure right from the beginning of the tournament.
He now plans to take positives out of his performance in the first four rounds, in order to make a strong charge on the leaderboard.
With only two rounds left in the tournament, Wilson will have to work really hard to book his place among the top-25 players to finish the tournament.
“I've had nerves all week,” he said. “I'm playing fine but I'm not driving it well. The Stadium Course is tough and a great course to have at Q-School. It tests you so it’s been hard work off the tee”.
He added, “I'm still alive and I have to put in two good rounds over the next few days but it’s doable and I'm not a million miles away. If you play well you can make birdies but it’s easy to drop shots too, so I just have to get it in play and I’ll be fine
- but that’s easier said than done”.
