Oliver Wilson shoots 65 to grab a lead at Madeira Islands Open – Portugal
Oliver Wilson is on the top of the Madeira Islands Open – Portugal, as he displayed two bogey-free rounds, shooting a 7-under 65 on Friday.
The 31-year-old Englishman amazed the spectators in both the rounds, as he played in comfortable weather conditions at the Santo da Serra in Madeira, Portugal.
He started the round early on Thursday. He displayed an amazing performance throughout the day, as he scored six massive birdies. He finished tied the first round for the second position after making a 6-under 66.
He continued his solid performance on Friday and reached the top of the leaderboard. He shot three long-yard birdies on the front nine holes of the course.
Wilson was fully motivated to show some more impressive strokes.  He delivered four more under pars on the back nine.
After two rounds, he recorded a 13-under 131 and is on a potential lead of one stroke. On the other hand, three players tied for the second position on Friday.
"I played nicely today," Wilson said. "The fact I haven't had a bogey for two rounds shows I'm playing solidly and sensibly. I actually feel like I left a few out there today. I missed three putts from inside six feet. But I made a couple of really good
par saves - not from bad shots, but just because the course is tricky”.
He added: "There's a long way to go and the scoring will carry on being low, but I'll keep pushing on and trying to make birdies. There will inevitably be some mistakes at the weekend, but it's just a question of trying to limit them. You've got to be patient”.
Wilson turned professional in 2003 and has been striving to become the proud winner of the professional event. He finished many events among the top-10 list, but has been unable to record a win so far.
His performance in both the rounds was amazing. The Englishman can be the winner in Portugal. Analysts said that all he needs to do is continue the same scoring trend. He has displayed a tremendous piece of performance.
They further said that he has ample chances to win the title. He can end his winning drought and win a European Tour event.
