Olivetti, Oswald, Torebko, Bednarek win opening qualifiers – Eckental Challenger 2011
On October 29, 2011, the 1st round qualifying matches of the 2011 Eckental Challenger featured Andreas Tattermusch (Germany) play against Albano Olivetti (France). The 19-year old Olivetti dominated his 31-year old German
opponent throughout the match. The 464th ranked Olivetti scored a straight set win against Tattermusch 6-4, 6-0.
Although Olivetti did not concede any break point, Tattermusch saved three out of seven. Olivetti did win in straight sets, but his six double faults proved he needs to work on his service delivery but nonetheless he played a decent
match.
In another match on October 29, 2011, Philipp Oswald (Austria) defeated Tihomir Grozdanov (Bulgaria) 7-5, 6-3. The 263rd ranked Oswald was on the front foot the moment the match began. With thirteen aces and not conceding any break
point, Oswald conceded a double fault only once and made his way into the tournament by winning the qualifier. The 24-year old Bulgarian was looking nervous against the Austrian but gathered momentum in the later parts of the match.
The qualifying matches on October 29, 2011 also featured Peter Torebko (Germany) defeat Timo Nieminen (Finland) in straight sets, 6-7 (4), 6-4, 6-2. The 23-year old German, who made his ATP circuit debut this year in September
during the 2011 BRD Nastase Țiriac Trophy held in Bucharest, Romania, was playing exceptionally well keeping in mind he is only two months old into his ATP career.
Nieminen, the 30-year old player from Finland fought well in the first set, which was a tiebreaker, winning it 7-6 (4). However, the 272nd ranked Torebko won the next two sets 6-4, 6-2. Torebko has been playing well in the ATP
division and in this match he scored seventeen aces while his opponent could only score four.
The German needs to look at his serves for he conceded double faults on thirteen occasions during the match. His opponent, the 343rd ranked Nieminen, did only nine double faults that showed his experience on the tennis court,
but he could not contain the energy Torebko was playing with.
As the qualifying rounds progressed on October 29, 2011, Tomasz Bednarek (Poland) won his match against Lubomir Majsajdr (Czech Republic) 7-6 (7), 6-3. The 1029th ranked Polish player saved the single break point he conceded while
the Czechoslovakian managed to save two out of his three break points.
Both players were delivering consistent aces throughout the match with Majsajdr scoring eighteen aces while Bednarek scored points with twelve aces. The Polish player who played the first round of the 2010 French Open and Wimbledon
Championships, has now moved through the qualifiers into the main round of the 2011 Eckental Challenger where he would be looking to clinch the ATP tour title to improve his world rankings.
