Olivia Rogowska reaches Australian Open playoffs final for the third straight year – Tennis News
20-years-old Olivia Rogowska has finally made it to the finals of the wild card playoffs for the main round place in the first Grand Slam tournament of 2012, Australian Open. She was extremely delighted the face-off her dear room-mate,
15-years-old, Ashleigh Barty, in the final.
Australian participant was talking about her achievements in the playoffs tournament and her participation in the final against her room-mate, she said, “We're actually roommates and we're sharing accommodation this week. Obviously,
she's playing really good tennis, she's going out there with nothing to lose and that's always the most lethal kind of player.''
Rogowska has been trying for past three years to qualify for this grand event but she hasn’t been able to have that major breakthrough that would have placed her in the main round of the tournament except her last year’s campaign
when she defeated playoffs favourite, Jelena Dokic. It will be her third consecutive playoffs final having lost to Casey Dellacqua in 2009.
She further added “The play-offs are tough because your friends are watching. But it's my third time in the final, so I will try to play well here. The play-offs are tough because your friends are watching.” Talking about her competitor
in the final, Barty, she stated that they both live in AIS so they often see each other and sometimes hit the practice courts together to make sure they remain in touch with tennis and each other.
It will be exciting to see two good friends battling it out for the place in the Grand Slam main round. 2011 has been considerable a topsy turvy season for the Australian as she has regularly qualified for the major events. She
kicked-off her season in Brisbane and managed to stun everyone by defeating the fourth seeded Chinese superstar, Shuai Zhang. She gave a tough fight to her opponent, Arantxa Rus, in the next round but couldn’t sneak pass that stage.
She participated in the Australian Open, French Open and Us Open but wasn’t able to move into the advanced rounds of the Grand Slam tournaments and could just register one appearance in each of these tournaments.
In September, she participate in Alice Springs tournament and flabbergasted everyone with her outstanding performance having defeated the eighth seed, seventh seed and then third seed in quarter-final, semi-final and final respectively.
This special performance was followed by another thumping triumph in Port Pirie and clinched her second tournament crown. She will definitely try her level best to make it to the main round of the tournament. It is expected to
be an exciting battle between the two room-mates.
