Olivia Scott and Timothy Philips capture 100m butterfly titles – 2011 USA Swimming Sectionals
Olivia Scott and Timothy Philips captured the title of the Women’s and Men’s 100m butterfly event on the third day of the 2011 USA Swimming Sectionals, in Athens, Georgia, USA.
Scott of AUB displayed a wonderful effort in the Women’s 100m butterfly, by clocking a superb time of 59.24 seconds. She was the only swimmer to post a sub 1 minute effort and stayed 0.76 seconds ahead of her following competitor, Andrea A Georoff of SwimMac
Carolina, who submitted a time of 1 minutes and 00.20 seconds for the silver medal. Georoff was followed by Kate M Nolan of Hershey, who produced an effort of 1 minute and 00.36 seconds to pocket the bronze medal.
The fourth spot was secured by Georoff’s team-member, Katherine A Mills, who stayed only 0.31 seconds behind the bronze medallist and posted a time of 1 minutes and 00.67 seconds. Anna R Munger of Seahawk Aquatics and Nicole E Stafford of DYNA were the fifth
and sixth position holders of the event, as they touched the finishing wall in 1:01.73 and 1:02.27 minutes, respectively.
In the Men’s corner, Phillips of SwimMac Carolina was the strongest swimmer to reach the top of the podium, as he completed his swim in a time of 52.82 seconds. He was followed by his team-members, Eugene D Godsoe and Davis E Tarwater, who stepped on the
podium for the silver and bronze medals, by clocking a time of 53.20 and 53.24 seconds, respectively.
Michael S Arnold of GOLD was the fourth best male swimmer of the event, as he stayed only 0.56 seconds away and posted a time of 53.80 seconds. Mark J Dylla of ABSC and Doug C Reynolds of Unat Summit followed Arnold on the finishing wall as the fifth and
sixth fastest finishers, with timings of 54.42 and 55.09 seconds, respectively.
Both gold medallists were happy with their winning efforts, while the arena enjoyed the amazing swims of all participants. In addition, the winners were awarded with awards and accolades after the conclusion of the session.
