Olivia Smoliga acquires Girls 50 yard freestyle gold – High School State Championships, Illinois
Olivia Smoliga of Glenview acquired the title of Girls 50 yard freestyle at the 2011 Girls High School State Championships in Illinois on Saturday, November 19 in Winnetka.
Smoliga stunned the arena with her frenzy effort in the short course freestyle discipline. With her immaculate stroke, she remained considerably ahead of her opponent and won gold medal of the event in a wonderful time of 22.55 seconds.
She was followed by  Evan Swenson of Wilmette, who remained 0.74 seconds slower than her former finisher and completed her swim in a fine time of 23.29 seconds for silver medal.
The third spot of the race was secured by Marisa Barton of Crystal Lake, who remained 0.68 seconds behind the silver medallist and posted a nice time of 23.97 seconds for bronze medal.
In the meantime, Maureen Barron of Oak Park proved her mettle for the fourth fastest spot of the swim. Barron stayed 0.11 seconds behind her preceding swimmer and submitted a time of 24.08 seconds for fourth position.
She was followed by Edan Scott of Skokie, who was just 0.12 seconds slower than Barron and completed her swim in a fifth best time of 24.20 seconds.
Moments later, Taylor Patterson of Winnetka transpired as the sixth position holder of the 50 yard event as she clocked a time of 24.30 seconds. Patterson was trailed by Madeline Hunt of Aurora, who clocked a seventh best time of 24.02 seconds  
Hunt edged out her closest competitor, Erika Elliott of Barrington with a difference of 0.01 seconds. Elliott completed her swim in a time of 24.03 seconds for eight finishing spot of the race. She was traced by Rose Thompson of Byron, who was 0.24 seconds behind her foregoing swimmer and reported a time of 24.27 seconds.
Thompson remained in a lead of 0.06 seconds over Nikol Lagodzinska of Chicago, who hit the wall in a time of 24.33 seconds. 
The crowd appreciated commendable efforts of all teenage swimmers in their respective meets. In addition, the winners were called upon the victory stand for awards and accolades after the completion of championship.
