Olivia Smoliga wins Women’s 100m backstroke gold: Day three – Mutual of Omaha Swimvitational
Olivia Smoliga of Glenview Titan Academy won gold medal of the Women’s 100m backstroke on closing day of the 2012 Mutual of Omaha Swimvitational in Nebraska on Sunday, June 10.
The 17-year-old Smoliga demonstrated her stupendous efforts in the double lap backstroke discipline and paved her way to the finishing end for the title of the event.
With her astonishing efforts, she enjoyed a substantial lead over her opponents and sprinted her way towards the finishing blockade with the timing of 1 minute and 01.15 seconds.
The gold medallist remained 2.05 seconds faster from Keaton Blovad of Phoenix Swim Club, who settled on the finishing end for silver medal by producing a time of 1 minute and 03.20 seconds.
Third position of the discipline was secured by Hailey Campbell of Una UVRA-UT, who stayed 0.32 seconds apart and made her way to the victory stand for bronze medal by clocking a time of 1 minute and 03.52 seconds.
Fourth position of the discipline was secured by Lacey Locke of Carmel Swim Club, who stayed 0.08 seconds apart and settled on the finishing blockade with the timing of 1 minute and 03.60 seconds.
The 17-year-old Locke was chased by Caroline Rodriguez of Rockwood Swim Club, who suffered a deficit of 0.28 seconds from her foregoing finisher and tapped the finishing end with the timing of 1 minute and 03.88 seconds.
Sixth finest spot of the event was secured by Locke’s teammate, Claire Adams, who remained 0.14 seconds behind and posted a time of 1 minute and 04.02 seconds.
Similarly, Adams was traced by Alyssa Busch of Oakland University, who was only 0.18 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and clocked an effort of 1 minute and 04.20 seconds.
Busch was chased by Rowan Hauber of Phoenix Swim Club, who ended eighth in the event by producing an effort of 1 minute and 04.48 seconds.
The crowd appreciated commendable struggles of all participants in the 100m discipline whereas the position holders collected medals and accolades for their accomplishments after the session. In addition, the championship came to an end after the session.
