Following their shock defeat at the hands of Lorient (2-1), Montpellier fans thought that they might have lost the chance to become Ligue 1 champions. However, Paris Saint-Germain failed to capitalise as they drew 1-1 to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/AJ-Auxerre-c38247 in Burgundy.
Now, Rene Girard’s men lead the Ligue 1 standings by two points with just six games left to play for. Certainly, the title is Montpellier’s to lose considering that they have never lost back-to-back Ligue 1 games this season.
After scoring 20 goals this season, Olivier Giroud has played a big role in his club’s rise. The France international says that though his side are in a great position, they should not relax as there are still quite a few games to play for.
The 25-year-old says that they will take every team seriously and will make sure they don’t slip-up.
“There are six matches and we must not relax. We realised we had probably blown our only joker in Lorient although Paris did not win.”
Giroud admits that there is a risk in the run-in for the title as his team lacks experience.
“If there is a risk, it is our lack of experience. We must forget all that. I firmly believe. Even in Lorient we remained dangerous.”
Fully committed to Montpellier cause, Giroud showed was very irritated when a journalist asked him about his future at the club. Giroud says that he is not going to talk about his future.
There are rumours that Giroud might stay at the club if Montpellier qualify for the Champions league, however, the striker denies that he ever said that.
“I never said that if Montpellier qualified for the Champions League, I’ll stay. I challenge anyone to find the tapes. I prefer to concentrate on the end of the season. I’m sick of this. I do not feel like talking about my future.”
Leader on an off the field, Giroud is only thinking about the Championelle and not about where he will be next season.
