Olivier Peslier expecting a surprise from Maureen in Qipco 1,000 Guineas Stakes
Olivier Peslier believes that Maureen can spring a surprise in the Qipco 1,000 Guineas Stakes (The 200th Running) (British Champions Series) (Group 1) (Fillies) (Class 1) at Newmarket in England on Sunday, May 5, 2013.
Speaking at Chantilly on Monday, Peslier said: “She's got a lot of pace and she enjoys her racing. If the favourites aren't quite at their best she's a filly who can cause a surprise. The fifth or sixth favourites in such a race always have a chance of winning.
Mr Hannon is a great trainer and if he's running her she must have a chance.”
The three-year-old filly has participated in a total of five races until now and has managed to deliver some very good results for her team. She has maintained a decent winning percentage and will look to continue delivering similar results in the future
too.
She started off her career in 2012 and took everyone’s attention straightaway with a classic victory. She was rated as the favourite to succeed and did not disappoint her fans at all, winning by a comfortable distance.
Since then, there was only one occasion, when she failed to meet the expectations of her team and that was at the end of her 2012 campaign. She has now made some improvement and started off the new season positively with a victory. Despite not being rated
as the favourite to succeed, she finished on top of the table after a thrilling fight.
Overall, she has secured three victories now and finished as a runner up once, which shows that she is quite capable of challenging her rivals for top positions with consistency.
However, things will be a touch difficult for Maureen, as he will have to weather the storm from some of the other talented performers like What A Name.
Her trainer M. Delzangles stated, “I'm very pleased with her and she has improved since winning the Prix Imprudence. That was the perfect comeback for her as she did not have a hard race and was only 80 per cent fit. I would prefer fast ground for her on
Sunday and I do not think that the step up to a mile will be any problem.”
