Olivier Rochus prevails over Ivan Sergeyev in the second round – Geneva Open 2012 CH
Right-hander, Belgian senior, Olivier Rochus, gave a straight-sets defeat to the Ukrainian professional, Ivan Sergeyev, in the second round of the Geneva Open 2012 held at the hard courts of GreenSet GrandPrix, Switzerland. He
jolted down his 6-1, 6-3 win on the eve of Wednesday in an hour’s time.
Ranked 97th in the South African Airways ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour Rankings, Rochus, made a conviction to dominate over his rival ever since his stepped on the hard courts. His serve and game
plan displayed his confidence and practise. As the situation proved to be in his favour, he jumped up to secure the initial three games and marked a 3-love lead right from the start. He actively dusted away all the break points and did not give his rival a
single chance to take over. He clinched his serve in the sixth game and in due course terminated the opener with a bread stick.
In the proceeding set, the world number 159, Sergeyev, held his serve and nudged up the score line 1-0. The score line levelled down to 1-all in the next game. Despite of his losing edge, the Ukrainian participant battled hard
to contest against his challenger but the higher ranked Belgian plucked his serve in the fifth game and marked a 3-2 lead. Sergeyev’s confidence completely crumbled but still managed to secure another point in the seventh game but he did not prove capable
to overpower. The Belgian right-hander remained focused and finally clicked a 6-3 win.
The seventh seeded Belgian senior secured 61 percent initial serve precision with 24 of 28 first and nine of 18 second delivery points. He nudged forward to capitalize on four of seven serve breaks and his junior lost the rhythm
because he was unable to snatch even one of the two. The 24-year-old Ukrainian bombarded his contender with five aces and committed four double faults. He attained 42 percent initial serve precision with 13 of 20 first and 11 of 28 second delivery points in
retaliation.
Next up for 31-year-old, Rochus will be the German challenger, Matthias Bachinger. He gave surprising defeat to the top seeded compatriot, Tobias Kamke and Argentinean professional, Federico Delbonis.
