With 13 glaring victories and £386,861 of prize money to his credit, the star gelding ran last on February 17, 2012 at Sandown and finished sixth in the outing.
The 14-year-old horse started his career on November 24, 2002 at Aintree racecourse. His maiden victory came on May 31, 2003 at Stratford.
Ollie Magern accomplished his first fabulous hat-trick by winning consistently and convincingly during July-October 2003. His second amazing hat-trick came during September-October 2004.
The last victory of the horse’s career came on May 23, 2010 at Perth racecourse.
As a whole, the gelding has earned a number of ace titles, awards and prizes. His long career is studded with honours.
The owner c*m breeder of Ollie Magern, Roger Nicholls, feels quite satisfied with his horse’s successful career and smooth retirement, claiming that it is an ideal time for the talented chaser to hang his boots.
While speaking to the media today, Nicholls said, “It was an easy decision to retire him. I've always said Ollie would tell us when it was time to retire him and that's what he did.”
He went on to say, “It was a sad day when I made the decision but we've got to do what's best for him. He's been fantastic and he's done us proud."
At the time of his superannuation, Ollie Magern has earned a lot of applause from racing experts, trainers and breeders. Most of his fans seem to be sad to think that they will no more be able to watch him in action.
What will be the post-retirement life of the horse is still a question mark. The owner has not yet revealed his future status.
Whatever happens with Ollie Magern, but he will ever remain a source of inspiration for his stable mates particularly and all other runner generally.
Bettor.Com presents rich tribute to the outgoing gelding. May his post-retirement life be as happy and healthy as it is now! Good luck to Ollie Magern.
