Olly Morgan is not ready for England return
Gloucester full-back Olly Morgan believes that he is a long way off a return to the England set up after returning from a hamstring injury.
Morgan has only returned to action with Gloucester two months ago, but his recent form will have caught the attention of England head coach Martin Johnson.
Ben Foden has cemented his position as the number one full-back in the English jersey after a number of impressive performances in the Six Nations and the summer tour of Australia.
Foden will start against New Zealand in England’s opening game of the Autumn Internationals on Saturday, 6 November.
However, Morgan is hopeful that he can challenge Foden for the position come next year, but the Gloucester player admitted that he had to focus on improving his own game first.
"It's a World Cup year, everybody wants to get in to that and I can safely say I'm quite a way off it," Morgan said in an interview with BBC Radio Gloucestershire.
Morgan believes that he still could make the World Cup squad providing he can avoid any further injuries.
"It's just purely down to injuries and being in and out of the mix and performing consistently," said the full-back.
Morgan has not played for the England team since 2007 and the player is eager to add to his two caps.
For now, the 24-year-old is content to feature for Gloucester and improve his form. Gloucester has played well in recent matches, beating Leicester by 19-12 in their last game.
Morgan has played his part in the team’s good form and he will hope that if he continues to improve he will get an opportunity to return to the England panel.
"I know that I need to continue with that and we'll see what happens—I'm just really enjoying the fact we're winning and we're third in the Premiership," said Morgan.
