Olmpique de Marseille head coach, Didier Deschamps, dismissed http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 job offer
Olmpique de Marseille coach Didier Deschamps has revealed that he snubbed an offer from Liverpool in the summer when Rafael Benitez left the Reds. The Merseyside club was looking for a suitable replacement to Benitez and Deschamps was a contender for the
job. Deschamps turned down the offer and Roy Hodgson was named the new Manager for Liverpool instead.
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 player revealed that he was pleased to hear from a club like Liverpool but his commitment to the French club blocked the move. The Frenchman said that he was flattered to receive the offer from a club with such a great history and it was
not an easy decision to make. “I was immensely flattered to receive Liverpool’s offer but there are two principal reasons that made me stay at Marseille. I thought about it for more than two seconds, I won't lie to you. Believe me. It's not every day Liverpool
come knocking on your door,” said the Frenchman.
Deschamps said that he was bound by contract to the French Ligue 1 Champions till 2012 and had already committed himself for a stay to the club and the players and he could not have betrayed them. "It was not an easy decision, I tell you, not easy. But I
had given my word here. I had a year left on my contract and committed myself to staying, giving my promise to the president, the fans and the players,” added Deschamps.
The Marseille boss added that there were some players who came to the club because of him and the Liverpool’s offer came too late for him. The Reds approached the Frenchman just two days before the pre-season started for Marseille in the end of June. Didier
Deschamps further added that Liverpool’s offer came just after the French National team’s controversial exit from the FIFA World Cup and he could not leave his club at that crucial juncture for personal glory.
"As I am a man of my word, I couldn't do it,” said the Frenchman.
Deschamps joined Marseille from Juventus in 2009 and in his first season as the manager, he led the French club to their first Ligue 1 title in 18 years. His successful season with Marseille ended with the League title, the League Cup and the Domestic Super
Cup.
