West Brom defender http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jonas-c18967 Olsson is looking forward to continuing his excellent partnership with centre back Gareth McAuley following his four-year contract extension with the club.
The Swedish international recently penned down a new deal that extends his stay at the Hawthorns till 2016. By doing so, Olsson has committed the last years of his top-flight career to the club, much to the delight of manager Steve Clarke and fellow players.
The imposing and consistent centre-back has been one West Brom’s most effective and influential players over the past few seasons. The player says that he feels at home with the club, and there were several factors that influenced his decision to sign a
new contract with the Baggies.
Olsson admits that his understanding with Gareth McAuley was perhaps the primary factor that led to him signing what he calls potentially the last major deal of his football career.
The defensive duo was described as one of the league’s best centre-half pairings by West Brom goalkeeper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ben-Foster-c7445 in an interview last week. Foster, who himself signed a new contract with the club during the summer, said that Olsson and McAuley were the
primary reason behind his impressive form in front of goal.
Olsson was delighted at having sorted out his contract issues, and heaped praise on his teammate McAuley, saying that he feels a ‘connection’ with the 32-year old http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Northern-Ireland-c2972 international.
Currently recovering from injury, the Swedish international said:
“I finally feel I’ve been able to get a good partnership at centre-half. I very much enjoy playing alongside Gareth and I hope our relationship can be a long one. One of the reasons I re-signed is that I really love playing alongside him.”
“He’s a good guy as well and that makes it easier to connect on the pitch. It’s normal when you play next to each other on the field to talk a lot and be friends. I definitely feel a connection with him.”
Manager Steve Clarke feels that Olsson has been an integral part of the squad, and insists that the club’s ability to hold on to its key players will be the major factor behind its success in the Premier League.
West Brom take on Manchester City at The Hawthorns once the league resumes next week, a game that is sure to be a stern challenge for the Baggies.
