West Brom defender http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jonas-c18967 Olsson has put pen to paper and signed a new four-year contract extension with the Baggies.
The Swedish international’s contract was set to run out next summer, but he has signed a new deal which extends his stay at the Hawthorns till 2016.
Earlier this week, West Brom goalkeeper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ben-Foster-c7445 had urged the club and its management to sort out Olsson’s contract. Foster insisted that the defender was an integral part of the squad and formed a rock solid partnership with Gareth McAuley.
Foster, who has only conceded one goal at the Hawthorns this season (in the 1-2 defeat against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 in the Capital One Cup), insisted that his impressive record was all due to Olsson and McAuley’s hard and disciplined work at the back.
The Baggies have only conceded 5 goals in 6 games in the league so far, and have been the surprise package of the league as they sit at sixth place, tied with Tottenham at 11 points.
The club started off its campaign with an impressive 3-0 home victory against Liverpool, and went on to draw away against Tottenham. West Brom also hosted and defeated http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Everton-c13019 at home, and have truly been a formidable force.
Manager Steve Clarke has truly worked his magic at the club, and signed a number of players during the summer. The likes of Markus Rosenberg, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Goran-Popov-c15165 were added to the Baggies’ ranks, and the club has so far been impressive in all its
games.
Clarke was especially delighted when Olsson inked a new deal. Speaking to the club’s official website, he said:
“This is great news for the club and shows we’re headed in the right direction. We’ve had a productive summer in terms of bringing new players in but it’s equally important that you hold onto your best players, and Jonas certainly fits into that category.”
“He’s a tough, uncompromising central defender who knows all about the Premier League and the opponents he’s up against week in, week out. Jonas is also a very important character and leader in our dressing room.”
