Olympiacos Piraeus romp to a 20 point win over Montepaschi Siena; Take a 2-1 lead: Euroleague Recap
After last minute free throws by Georgios Printezis helped Olympiacos Piraeus tie the best of five series at 1-1 on March 23rd, the Greek side rolled over Montepaschi Siena, 75-55, in the first of the two games to be
played on their home court, at the Peace and Friendship Stadium.
If the Reds win the next game on Friday, they will go through to the Final Four, a feat they will achieve for the third time in four years. The win will also avenge their 3-1 loss to Siena, at the same stage last year.
On the night, the Greeks were paced by Kyle Hines, who came off the bench to nearly put in a double-double with 15 points and 9 rebounds; Kostas Sloukas had 11, 4 rebounds and 3 assists while Acie Law chipped in with 10 points
and also dished out 6 assists.
Siena gave Olympiacos a run for their money in the first quarter, but then ice cold in the second and the third quarters and were trailing by 48-30 entering into the last 10 minutes. The situation got from bad to worse for Siena
after Olympiacos raced off to an 18-7 start in the fourth, to stretch their lead to 29. After that, there was very little that Montepaschi could have done except to play for the time.
Olympiacos Head Coach Dusan Ivkovic, was ecstatic with the performance of his team, which after conceding a 1-0 lead in the series will enter Friday night, looking to wrap up Siena;
"It was our best game in the series. We played as we had to do against an experienced team. I am very satisfied with our terrific defense and we controlled the rhythm of the game for 40 minutes. We were a little bit nervous in
the first minutes, but when we found the tempo through our defense, everything was over.”
Bo McCalebb with 15 points and David Andersen, 12, were the only two players who managed double figures for Siena, who struggled to find baskets on a consistent basis and managed only 16 for 47 from the two point range.
