Question:

Olympic Conspiracy or Coincidence?

Do you feel due to the recent events at the Beijing Games that China's Cheng Fei should have won the tie - breaker over USA's Alicia Sacramone. I saw the whole routine on television and in my opinion I feel as though Alicia should have won over Cheng. What do you think? Do the Chinese competitor's have an edge over the USA (and other countries) because of the games being held at there home base? or are some of the judges just not seeing the real picture? Does the judging even seem fair or should it be returned to "the perfect 10" as in previous years? Serious answers only please.

  1. The tie-breaking rule is ridiculous. They received the same score- give them the same medal just like in EVERY other sport! Counting down the individual scores is relying on the eyes of the judges to give a fair and competent evaluation. There seems to be too many variables.

  2. Change the rules, give dual gold medals, it's the only fair thing to do.

  3. It is a conspiracy.  Last nights tie breaker was between Natasia and nto Cheng but another girl, and I think Natasia should have won!    Also, I do think they need to go back to the old way of judging.  This new system is so confusing!!!

  4. It does seem fishy....I too saw the routine and feel the us should've been placed higher than china.  And the tie breaker was ridiculous!!

  5. I think you are confused.

Alicia and Cheng are not the two athletes involved in the "tie breaker" controversy.  They are the "vault fall" controversy.

The two athletes involved in the tie breaker are Nastia Liuken and He Kexin.

Mathematically the tie breaker system made sense.  As does the scoring.  The system flaws come with inexperienced judges, as any country competing in that event is not allowed to have a judge from that country.  Therefore, countries without mainstream gymnastics experience are judging the competition.

  6. Conspiracy is pushing it.

But it's everything really gone China's way no matter what way you look at it or against America.

Alicia got 4th in favor of a Chinese

Nastia got 2nd in favor of a Chinese

Shawn and Nastia got 2nd and 3rd in favor of someone else. (But this one wasn't that bad judging)

  7. Well ive been told that the judges are not all chinese but they could be getting a payoff.  With china's opening day scams (girl lipsinqking and fake fireworks) i believe that china would give an edge to themselves.  There so self conscious about looking good to the world that rigging things is a definite possibility. If they are, shame on u china's cheaters but i really don't think so.

  8. months or years from now some olympic judge will come forward to admit that the chinese government was strong arming everybody.

    100% conspiracy !

  9. theres a tie breaking procedure. to come up with an original score, they take out the highest and the lower scores. if two people are tied, they take out the 2nd lowest score to see who ends up having the combined score.

  10. I don't agree with the tie-breaker rule, but that's how it is.
