Olympic Diving Question?

Last night while watching the Olympic diving competition I noticed that there is a small "jet" or "stream" of water that shoots out onto the water right in the area where the divers enter the water. What is that for? Thanks!

It circulates the water for no good reason.

It actually stirs up the water so its less hard when the divers hit it and i think kit may also have something to do with divers being able to tell exactly where the water starts so they know how high they are
