Olympic Games and Fencing
Olympic Games are the biggest event of sports, where thousands of athletes from all over the world compete in different games. Olympic Games are conducted after every four year and that year has to be a leap year. Olympic Sports are organised by International
Olympic Committee (IOC) situated at Lausanne, Switzerland.
2012 London Olympic Games is the upcoming mega sports event of Olympic chain. Games of the x*x Olympiad 2012 will be held at London. In these games, 302 events will be held with the participation of almost 205 countries and about 10,500 athletes. Olympics
will start on July 27, 2011 with an opening ceremony and end on August 12, 2011 with the closing ceremony.
Ten types of event will held in fencing from July 28 to August 5, named after the three types of swords. Men will compete in five events, namely Men’s Individual Foil, Men’s Team Foil, Men’s Individual Epee, Men’s Individual Sabre and Men’s Team Sabre and
women will also compete in five events, namely Women’s Individual Epee, Women’s Team Epee, Women’s Individual Foil, Women’s Team Foil and Women’s Individual Sabre. Total 212 athletes will fight for ten gold medals. There is a minute clash between IOC and IFE
upon the limits of medal. IFE wants to add two more medals, but IOC wants to keep the previous format of ten medals.
The venue for fencing is set 'ExCeL Exhibition Centre'. It is located near London City Airport. People will have an easy approach due to the venue's superb road links, excellent railway networks. ExCeL has been visited by more than 7 million visitors from
200 countries and about 3,500 events have been conducted here. ExCeL is divided into four halls having capacities from 6000 to 10000 in each hall. Boxing, weight-lifting, fencing, judo, table, table tennis, taekwondo and wrestling will be played in these halls.
If we talk about the worldwide power-houses of fencing, France, Germany, Italy and Russia have influential and expert fencers who can avail chance to get the gold medals.
If we go through the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, France ranked first by winning four medals (two gold and two silver medals). Italy was ranked number two with seven medals (two gold and five bronze medals). Germany got the third position by two gold medals
only.
USA has a strong Women’s Sabre Team and it was ranked fourth by getting a total of six medals (one gold medal by Women’s Team Sabre, three silver medals and two bronze. Similarly, China won two medals (one gold and one silver medal) and was ranked at number
five. Ukraine was at number six with one gold medal, Russia at seven with one gold medal and remaining Romania, Japan, South Korea, Poland, Spain and Hungary were at numbers 8th to 13th with silver and bronze medals. The gold medallists,

If we discuss about any fencer individually regarding 2012 Olympic Fencing, there are some skilled fencers who can win the fencing events due to their current performance.
Maria Valentina Vezzali is one of them. She is an Italian fencer and previously she has won three gold medals in Women’s Individual Foil events of Olympic Games consecutively, and she has a chance to become the only fourth fencer to win four gold medals
in following Summer Olympics. She is also the winner of four gold medals, one silver medal and one bronze medal in Olympic fencings, eleven gold medals, four silver and three bronze medals in World Fencing Championships and nine gold medals, three silver medals
and two bronze medals in European Championships.
Alex O’Connell was defeated in the first round of 2008 Olympic fencing competition, but has huge potential in the upcoming fencing events. Richard Kruse, the new bronze winner of European Fencing Championships in Leipzig is making its hope to avail medals.
