Olympic Games is the main target for players and coaches, says national coach Tey Seu Bock
Malaysia’s national coach Tey Seu Bock said that the main target for the coaches and players is to get good results at the 2012 Olympic Games and that all focus will remain to get there.
The coach is optimistic that Malaysian shuttlers will produce elevated form in the mega event as the coaches are fully focused to evaluate and improve the performance of players.
In the title match of last week’s All England Open Premier Super Series 2012, the World Number One Lee Chong Wei conceded a walkover to Lin Dan of China because of his shoulder injury.
He could not complete the match and stopped contesting in the second set of final contest. However, he mentioned that his injury is not severe and will take on Lin while becoming more fit in the Olympic Games.
While talking about the performance and condition of Chong Wei, the coach said that he did not allow the shuttler to use pain killers before the match as it could have caused greater problems.
He said, “He wanted to take painkillers and play on but I advised him against it. The damage could have been greater. We agreed that he could play, on condition that he stop if the pain became unbearable.”
While talking about the plans for Olympic Games, the coach said that we do not want shuttlers to get injured as there will be bigger challenges in the mega event because many shuttlers from different countries are catching up fast.
He further added, “All of us – the players and coaches – are very focused on our Olympic mission. We don’t want injuries to jeopardise our chances in the Games. Chong Wei’s number of opponents is getting bigger. Besides Lin Dan and Chen Long, Tago is also shaping up well.”
While talking about the potential contenders in the Men’s Singles category, Seu Bock said that China’s Chen Long, Indonesia’s Taufik Hidayat and Japan’s Kenichi Tago will be gearing up to perform well in Olympic Games.
Chong Wei’s injury is not that severe as he is expected to recover soon and will be back to entertain his fans in a few weeks.
