Olympic Glory withdrawn from Irish 2,000 Guineas – Horseracing News
Olympic Glory is set to miss the Irish 2,000 Guineas following his disappointing run in the Poule d'Essai des Poulains in France. He doesn’t appear to be in good rhythm at the moment, which is why he needs some
training before coming back to action at the highest level.
According to his trainer Richard Hannon, “There are only 12 days between the two Classics and we have decided that Olympic Glory needs a bit more time. He could never get into a rhythm from that draw at Longchamp
and Hughesie [Richard Hughes] looked after him, but he still had to travel to France and back and it takes a lot out of a horse.”
For his outing at Longchamp, Olympic Glory was rated as the outright favourite to succeed because he was carrying a pretty decent momentum from his first race of the 2013 season. However, he failed to meet the
expectations of his fans and ended up way down in 11th place overall.
This was the first time when the three-year-old colt dropped out of the top three in a race. His overall record is a phenomenal one, as he has managed to succeed in five events out of seven. Moreover, he has
also finished as a runner up once, which clearly shows that he has the ability to fight the front runners with consistency.
Although he will be missed in the Irish 2,000 Guineas, his stable mates Havana Gold and Van Der Neer will be looking to shine in the all important competition. The latter of the two is expected to be stronger,
as he is looking in good rhythm at the moment.
Hannon said, “It's a shame Olympic Glory can't go, but he'll be back sooner rather than later and we are still strong in Ireland with two solid chances. Van Der Neer will relish the stiff finish at the Curragh
and he has come out of Newmarket great.”
There is no doubt that Olympic Glory would have been the favourite to win the upcoming event, had he taken part in it, but his absence has given a chance to some of the other stallions to make a name for themselves.
