Olympic Park Legacy Company opens bid for naming rights of London 2012 Olympic Games venues
The Olympic Park Legacy Company (OPLC) has opened up its bidding process in order to welcome companies who are interested in making the bid to take the naming rights for some of the main venues of the London 2012 Olympic Games.
The venues that are presently up for grabs are the Olympic Park, Aquatics Centre as well as the multipurpose arena that will be playing host to the handball event of the Olympic Games.
It will not be a short process that will finally decide the sponsors for the Olympic venues as the OPLC has decided on the month to announce the final sponsors as May. The exact date on which the sponsors would be revealed has not yet been finalised.
The potential sponsors of the Games have been given time until the March 2 in order to register themselves as bidders for the naming rights. Once the companies have been listed down, the OPLC will be formally asking them to submit their proposals for gaining
ownership of the naming rights.
The chief executive of the OPLC, Andrew Altman, commented on the matter in the following manner, “Billions of people will see these venues during the Games, and millions more will visit every year. We are looking for sponsors who share our vision to create
an inclusive Park that promotes healthy living and offers sporting, training and employment opportunities to our local communities. The fact that we aim to appoint sponsors before the Games even start is another example of how London is further ahead in planning
legacy than any previous host Olympic City.”
The companies that do get their hands on the naming rights will earn a great opportunity to market themselves as the seating capacity at the venues is immense. The Olympic Stadium holds a total of 60,000 seats.
On the other hand, the arena that is in line for hosting the handball event is planned to be the biggest one in the capital of England yet will be capable of accommodating 7,500 spectators. After the Olympic Games reach their close, the arena will be used
for commercial, cultural as well as community sports.
