Olympic Park Legacy announces delay in bidding of Olympic Stadium
It has recently come to light that the bidding process for the completion of the Olympic Stadium has come to a temporary halt. The delay in the process has been extended to at least three weeks.
The development has caused a lot of people to worry about the timely completion of the stadium that is expected to be the centre of attraction at the London 2012 Olympics.
The main problem that caused the disturbing announcement to be made was the fact that the papers that would act as the tender documents were not ready as yet. This news has been confirmed by the Olympic Park Legacy Company. The expected ball park date for
the completion of the tender documents for the Olympic Stadium is some time during the third week of November. However, it has been indicated that the process could linger on to the month of December.
According to the current situation, it is not unlikely that the documents will be ready after the voting for the 2017 World Athletics Championship is done. The final decision on the voting is to be made by the IAAF. The capital of England is one of the contenders
in the bidding process for the world championships. The other potential host for the championships is Doha, the capital of Qatar.
There are interesting implications in both the scenarios of a win as well as a loss of the bid for the world championships by the city of London. In case the capital of England is able to succeed in making a bid, a total of 60,000 seats will have to be retained.
However, in case of a defeat, a relatively smaller capacity would do and could mean smaller bidders for the Olympic Stadium entering the competition.
The city of London will play host to the Olympic Games for a third time in its history. After having successfully hosted the event, London will become the first city in the world to have the honour of playing host to the Games for three times. The first
occasion was in the year 1908 while the second time it was in 1948.
