  1. i have never tryed, but my old instructor's daughter tryed. she placed 4th when she tryed to qualify. I think she was a 2nd dan. More over, i think the only requirement is to be at least a 1st degree black belt & at least 18 years old.

  2. You don't have to be 18.  Go to http://www.usa-taekwondo.us/

Look for "USAT Santioned Events" about 1/2 way down on your left.

You should start competing as much as possible at those events.  They just finished the US Jr. Olympics & Sr. Nationals in Detroit yesterday.

You should also talk to your master about this, if he is legit, he should have some connections at least to be able to let you talk to the right people.

The next big event for 2012 hopefuls would be the Pan Am games.  Things will be on hold a bit now that last week's tournament is over and the Olympics are next month.

Be ready though, we had guys that are used to winning gold medals at local or statewide tournaments that went to the nationals.  While a couple of our students took gold at nationals, a few were embarrased by the mercy rule, falling 7-0 in 14 seconds & 29 seconds respectively.  It's usually a big step up compared to your average local tournament.
