Olympic Village residents to get free gas
It has recently been announced that the City of Vancouver will be providing its 160 residents who are inhabiting the Olympic Village a relaxation of not being liable to pay the hot water or the heating bills until July 2012.
The bills of these residents will be paid by the city. The executive director of COHO Housing Management, Thom Armstrong, broke this news. These bills total to be $10,000 for each month. During the time till the Olympic Games next year, the engineers will
be working collaboratively to find the solution to the heating problems in the Olympic Village.
The residents of the Olympic Village have been repeatedly making complaints about experiencing heating problems. According to the city, the problem related to the heating is only isolated to the two buildings and does not include the rest of the Olympic
Village.
Sadhu Johnston, the Deputy City Manager, made the following statements regarding the matter, “Part of what happened is that when Vanoc left they turned some of the systems off and so we needed to recalibrate them and actually recommission the building.”
In order to be dealing with the situation in an orderly fashion, the residents would be receiving the bills but they would not have to pay them. On the other hand, a support person would be assigned to every household so that the residents can learn ways
in which to improve the consumption of gas in their households.
The city had been paying the bills previously as well but the previous cost of bills in the Olympic Village was around $15,000. This has now been cut down to the figure of $10,000.
The problems have been in place since the time of the 2012 Winter Olympics but they have been controlled to quite an extent now.
The Olympic Village has been given the facility of bill payment until the time the Olympic Games will commence next year in July. It will be the third time that the Games will find themselves in the city. The first time that the Games came to London was
in 1908 while the second time it was in 1948.
